Join Team Transit
UTA’s mission is simple and consequential: We Move You. With more than 40 million boardings last year, that promise is fulfilled every day in the lives of people and communities across Utah. Your leadership and partnership are essential to the “We.” Together, we can move people, strengthen communities, and build a more connected Utah. As our state grows and UTA’s governance and operating structure evolve, We Move You remains our compass — keeping us focused on the people we serve and the future we share.
On July 1, UTA entered a new era of governance as a seven-member, part-time Transit Commission succeeded our Board of Trustees. Established by the Utah State Legislature to align UTA with the state’s growth, this transition strengthens accountability and positions the agency for the future. It also reflects confidence in UTA’s record of results — and a clear expectation that we will continue delivering the mobility Utah needs.
That future will not be built by UTA or the Transit Commission alone. The next chapter of UTA — NextUTA — depends on strong advocacy, meaningful community engagement, and a statewide Team Transit united around a shared vision. We invite elected officials, legislators, service communities, transportation partners, employees, and riders to help shape that vision and champion the investments that will move Utah forward. We all have a stake in getting transit right — and when we lead together, speak with a shared purpose, and act with resolve, we can build a transit system worthy of Utah’s future. As we stay rooted in our mission — We Move You — we also must prepare for what’s ahead: major regional events, continued growth, and a global spotlight on Utah leading up to 2034.

Thank You, Senator John Curtis
The Utah Transit Authority extends its sincere appreciation to U.S. Senator John Curtis for his leadership, advocacy, and steadfast support of the FrontRunner Double Tracking (FrontRunner 2X) project.
Thanks in large part to Senator Curtis' efforts and collaboration with Utah's congressional delegation, FrontRunner 2X has successfully advanced into the Federal Transit Administration's engineering phase, a significant milestone toward transforming commuter rail service along the Wasatch Front. His work also helped secure approximately $1.3 billion in anticipated federal funding support for the project, positioning Utah to make one of the largest investments in transit infrastructure in state history.
The FrontRunner 2X program will expand capacity, improve reliability, increase service frequency, and support the region's growing transportation needs for decades to come. Senator Curtis has been a strong advocate for ensuring Utah remains competitive for federal transportation investments, helping advance projects that strengthen mobility, economic opportunity, and quality of life.
UTA is grateful for Senator Curtis' partnership and commitment to delivering critical transportation solutions for Utah's residents, businesses, and communities.
Down the Line
FrontRunner 2X: Creating Community Connections
Utah is growing — and FrontRunner needs to grow with it.
The Wasatch Front is projected to grow by 43% by 2050, while FrontRunner is already operating at 90% capacity during peak times. The FrontRunner 2X project will double service frequency, with trains every 15 minutes during peak hours, making it easier for more people to connect to UTA’s larger system. Riders will have more schedule options and greater flexibility, making it easier to show up and ride when it’s convenient for them.
FrontRunner 2X is about more than adding rail. It’s about building the transportation network Utah will need for generations to come. By 2050, FrontRunner 2X is expected to provide a trip that is 17% faster than the same trip on I-15. With 80% of Utahns living within UTA's service area, more residents will have convenient access to a fast, frequent way to get where they need to go.
As we prepare to move the world again for the 2034 Winter Olympics, enhanced FrontRunner service will help move millions of spectators across the state. UTA and UDOT are working together to connect communities long after the medals are awarded — giving millions of Utahns more ways to get where they need to go for generations to come.

On Board With — Utah County Commissioner Skyler Beltran
Each issue of the State of Transit, we showcase people and organizations who make transit work in Utah — an elected official, an employer, a legislator, or a community. Meet Commissioner Skyler Beltran and learn about Utah County’s success using 5th 5th transportation funds to bring much-needed on-demand transit service to northwest Utah County.
In collaboration with UTA and UDOT, we successfully brought UTA On Demand transit service to northwest Utah County, made possible through our 5th 5th transportation funds.
We’ve seen incredible success in the program’s first month, from helping alleviate traffic through shared rides to providing greater mobility and independence for students, seniors and individuals with disabilities, while also connecting more residents to the broader UTA transit system.
This innovative new program allows riders to travel up to 6 miles within the service zone covering Lehi, Saratoga Springs, and Eagle Mountain, with no mileage limit for trips to or from the Lehi or American Fork FrontRunner stations.
We’ve already heard some amazing testimonials. One mom shared how the service has given her son, who uses a wheelchair, the ability to get around independently without relying on her for every trip. Another resident who works from home previously had to wait for his wife to return from work before he could go anywhere with the family car. Now, he uses UTA On Demand to run errands and get around during the workday.
These are exactly the kinds of stories we hoped to see: greater independence, better access, and more transportation options for our residents and growing community.

Moving Utah Together
Connect Transit
Across Utah, transportation partners are working together to connect communities, expand opportunity, and prepare for growth. In each issue of the State of Transit, Moving Utah Together will highlight the agencies and organizations shaping mobility across our state. This issue, meet Connect Transit and learn how community input is guiding the future of public transit in Cache County.
In 2024, the Cache Valley Transit District officially rebranded as Connect Transit. The brand change reflects Connect’s core purpose: connecting our passengers to the people, places and opportunities that matter most to them.
Building on this foundation, Connect Transit is currently leading a comprehensive short and long-range planning effort to shape the future of local public transit in Cache County. This initiative establishes detailed service delivery projects and associated financial modeling for the next five years, alongside conceptual visionary frameworks for the next 10 to 15 years.
Connect Transit has always leaned into community input and close collaboration with our municipal and county partners to meet the growth across our region. Through extensive outreach, our riders, elected officials, local employers and community members have been given the opportunity to share their primary transportation priorities.
These valuable insights directly inform our strategy, ensuring future capital investments, route enhancements, and service expansions reflective of the community needs. Connect Transit is preparing to roll out its final short- and long-range plan with service priorities established by the Board of Trustees in February of 2027. Connect remains dedicated to delivering safe, accessible, and community-driven transit solutions across the valley and connecting to the Wasatch Front in the future.

UTA Moves 2055: Strategic Long-Range Transit Plan
We recently kicked off UTA Moves 2055, the next update to UTA's Strategic Long-Range Transit Plan.
This agencywide plan, which is shaped by input from UTA’s partners and members of the community, will help guide and prioritize UTA’s transit investment for the next 30 years. The plan is scheduled for adoption by the Transit Commission by fall of 2027 and provides a vision for the next 5,10, 20, and 30 years of UTA's development.
UTA Moves 2055 aims to enhance mobility and accessibility for all riders by expanding access to schools, jobs, and community resources. It will strengthen alignment both within UTA and with our partners across Utah so we can effectively support the mobility needs of the communities we serve, while preparing to accommodate the rapid growth that’s occurring across the Wasatch Front.
The process of adopting this plan includes 2 rounds of public engagement. We will be seeking our first round of public input in October. The next round will occur next spring. By The Numbers
- Zero findings in UTA’s most recent Triennial Review with the Federal Transit Administration
- Ranked #4 in transit service miles per capita among the nation’s largest urban areas, behind San Francisco, New York, and Washington, D.C., according to the Urban Institute. This reflects Utah’s significant investment in transit service. At the same time, Salt Lake City ranks #10 in transit trips per capita, highlighting an opportunity to connect more housing and jobs to the transit system and make greater use of the service already available.
